Analyze paid time off across your team

Analyze paid time off across your team

Ask Plane who has taken too little paid time off, who is running low, and how leave splits by team, then turn the read into a friendly nudge. No spreadsheets.

What it does

Whether you’re a founder without a People team or an HR leader watching capacity across a distributed group, you get a clear read on how paid time off is being used across the company, in the tools you already work in, with no tracker to open and no report to build.

You can see who hasn’t been taking enough time off and look at trends by department, to stay ahead of which departments may be on the verge of burnout. Ask a plain-language question and Plane reads your live records to answer it: days taken per person, each person’s vacation balance, and how the picture breaks down by team. Draft a nudge at the end that you can send to team members and department heads.

Disclaimer: This use case helps you review how time off is used across your team. It isn’t legal or tax advice.

Setting up your MCP connection

Before you start, connect your AI app to Plane. In an MCP-compatible client (such as Claude or ChatGPT), add Plane as a remote connector using the link below. For more detailed instructions, check out our MCP guide.

Step 1: Pull the company-wide time-off view

Ask Plane to list everyone currently on your team along with their vacation balance.

Note that "who currently works here" matters more than it sounds; Plane keeps the numbers for people who've already left, so leaving that out can put a departed employee on the overdue list. Also, if you track “paid time off” instead of, or in addition to, “vacation” time off in Plane, you’ll want to specify what you’re looking to analyze.

Step 2: Break it down by department

See which teams have the most unused time off, and which are keeping pace.

Step 3: Turn the read into action

Once you know who's overdue for vacation, draft a nudge for them.

Step 4: Review and send

If your AI app is connected to Slack, ask it to send the Slack note individually to each team member after showing you the recipient list for confirmation.

What you'll need

  • A Plane workspace with your team members, their departments, and recorded time off

  • Admin access in Plane

  • An MCP-compatible AI client (e.g., Claude or ChatGPT) connected to Plane
