There’s a reason Warren Buffett has lived in the same house in Omaha, Nebraska, since 1957. With more miles of river than any other state, famously friendly people, and endless outdoor recreation opportunities, Nebraska offers its residents an unbeatable quality of life. Chances are if your next employee calls Nebraska home, like Warren Buffett, they won’t want to leave the Cornhusker State. Fortunately, in this era of remote work, it’s easy to collaborate across state lines.Bringing on a new employee can be exciting, but there’s often a lot to do as well. You want to onboard your new hire as quickly and smoothly as possible to ensure their success at your organization. But before you get started with onboarding, you’ll need to register your company with the state of Nebraska.

Register your business in Nebraska in two easy steps:

  1. First, you’ll need to register online with the Nebraska Department of Revenue.
You should receive your account number from the Department of Revenue immediately after registering. You’ll receive your account number from the Department of Labor in the mail about a week after registering.Once you’ve received your account numbers, you’ll be able to register new employees, file wage reports, and submit unemployment taxes online. Remember, in general, you are responsible for paying an unemployment tax once you’ve paid $1500 in wages in a single calendar quarter, or employed someone for a portion of a day in each of 20 different weeks in a calendar year.If you need additional help, the Department of Labor has an Employer’s Guide to Unemployment Insurance. They also have a step-by-step guide to applying for an unemployment account number. The Department of Revenue also has a useful FAQ page.Interested in streamlining your state registration process?
