A lot of payroll and HR work is constant.

Someone needs to know whether a contractor in Portugal got paid. Someone else needs next month's payroll forecast. Two people are missing tax forms. All of it lands on the same desk.

Plane Agent was built to absorb that busywork. Until now, it did that in Slack. Today it's available in the Plane app, too.

What Plane Agent does

Plane Agent is your AI teammate for payroll and HR. You ask it something in plain language, and it answers from your actual Plane data.

It handles questions like:

  • "Has our contractor in Portugal been paid this month?"

  • "What's our payroll forecast for Q4?"

  • "How does this month's payroll compare to last month's?"

  • "Who's missing a W-8 or W-9?"

Because it's working directly from Plane, it isn't guessing. It's reading the same records your team is.

Now inside the Plane app

Plane Agent started in Slack because that's where a lot of these questions get asked. With this release, you’ll still be able to talk to Plane Agent in Slack, if you prefer; nothing changes for teams who like working that way.

But for teams who prefer to work inside the Plane app, you can now talk to Plane Agent there. You're already looking at a payroll run, a contractor record, or a team member's profile when you have (or get) a question. Now you can just ask, right there, without switching tabs or context.

Files in, files out

The other change in this release: Plane Agent now works with attachments.

Send it a file, and it can read it. Drop in a signed contractor agreement and ask it to pull out the payment terms. Share a spreadsheet of proposed salary bands and ask how they compare to what you're currently paying.

It can also produce files. Ask for a payroll comparison across the last six months and get a spreadsheet or a PDF, whichever you prefer, and ask it to customize the file further to your liking. Request a headcount summary and get something you can drop straight into a board deck.

Before, Plane Agent could tell you the answer. Now, it can hand you a file in your preferred format and also analyze the files that you give it.

How to turn it on

Plane Agent is currently still in beta. You can switch it on yourself today from the Features catalog.

Log in to Plane and click Features in the lower left of the sidebar. That's where new features land first, and where you can opt in while they're still in beta. Find Plane Agent, toggle it on, and it's available across your workspace.

Getting started

Open Features, switch on Plane Agent, and ask it something you'd otherwise have to go digging for.

If your team works in Slack, you can keep using it there, too. Your choice.

The same features available in Plane Agent are available in Claude, ChatGPT, and any other MCP-compatible client. Simply add Plane to your favorite AI app as a connector (see details in our MCP guide), and it will be able to pull data from Plane when answering your questions. Ask Claude to help spot attrition risk among your employees, or to build a PTO dashboard, based on your live Plane data.
